Students who are offered this scholarship by Utah State University and choose to accept it must follow the terms and conditions of the award below.

Award Title

Native American Student Scholarship

Value

  • Up to full resident tuition & student body fees per semester, after Pell grant or other aid. 
  • The Native American Student Scholarship award amount may vary each semester depending upon tuition and fee charges as well as other scholarships and grants received. This award will be zero dollars during semesters when tuition and student body fees are fully covered by other scholarships and grants. 

Eligibility

  • Proof of Tribal Membership (POTM) in one of the approved tribes as explained on the website. 
  • Submit a FAFSA each year.

Conditions

  • This scholarship will pay towards undergraduate tuition (excluding differential tuition charges) and student body fees at Logan and Statewide Campuses (excluding online courses completed from a location outside of Utah, usu.edu/online/cost).
  • This is considered a 'last dollar in' scholarship. This means funds from this award will pay towards any remaining amount of tuition and student body fees not already covered by other grants (including, but not limited to, the Federal Pell Grant) and/or scholarships (including, but not limited to, the Utah Opportunity Scholarship, departmental scholarships, or outside scholarships).
  • If a student is considered a nonresident for tuition purposes, this scholarship will not pay towards the nonresident portion of tuition. 

Award Retention Requirements

  • This scholarship is available for 4 years (8 semesters)
  • Submit renewal FAFSA by February 1st to maximize your funding opportunities — applications are still accepted after this date
  • A 2.0 or greater USU Institutional GPA is required to maintain your award
  • To retain this award, associate / bachelor’s students must earn 24 credits between fall and spring semesters.  To meet this requirement, you must enroll full-time (12-18 credits) by the final add/drop deadline each semester.  Tech Ed only students have no credit requirement but must be enrolled in at least one CTE course.

  • Scholarship automatically accepted upon enrollment confirmation

Declining Your Award

Deferral and Notification of Leave

  • Scholarships may be held to a future semester for extenuating illness, military, or humanitarian service.
  • Deferment must be processed through the Office of Admissions. A deferral is for admitted students who have not started classes at USU.
  • To hold this award, submit a Notification of Leave. A notification of leave is for students who have already attended USU.

Terms of Award

Student is either a US citizen, permanent resident of the United States, or naturalized citizen of the United States.

The scholarship is applied in consecutive semesters (excluding summer semester) beginning the first term of enrollment at USU unless a Deferment or Notification of Leave has been submitted.  

Any unpaid expenses may result in the loss of their classes. Review payment deadlines.

Tuition can only be covered once. If the student has been offered tuition-based academic scholarships or waivers covering in total more than 100% tuition, they will contact Student Financial Support to discuss their options. 

This scholarship may be revoked should the student attend another institution of higher education. The student is able to attend another institution of higher education during the summer semester, but attending during the normal academic year (fall/spring) may result in the cancellation of this award.
