Utah State University's Janet Quinney Lawson Institute for Land, Water, and Air Welcomes Stephanie Frohman as New Associate Director
Logan, Utah - Utah State University's Janet Quinney Lawson Institute for
Land, Water, and Air (ILWA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephanie Frohman as
its new associate director. Frohman brings over two decades of leadership, strategy, and
partnership development experience to the institute, most recently serving as the Senior Vice
President of Strategy & Partnerships at the Economic Development Corporation of Utah
(EDCUtah).
“Stephanie’s position will add significant capacity and momentum to our team,” said Brian
Steed, executive director of ILWA. “We’re fortunate right now to have more opportunities to
engage than we’ve had ability to take advantage of. We expect our rate of growth and impact to
expand even more with Stephanie joining the institute. We’ve been looking for a greater
presence on the Wasatch Front, and Stephanie’s Salt Lake-based position will provide that.”
During her tenure at EDCUtah, Frohman designed and launched several long-running initiatives
including EDCUtah’s Global Strategy & Outreach, Know the Customer and Mega Sites programs.
Her most recent role focused on strengthening partnerships with hundreds of private sector
partners and overseeing marketing and communications strategies for both in-state and
external audiences.
“I’m thrilled and humbled to be joining the ILWA team,” said Frohman. “I’ve admired their work since I was first introduced in 2022 and am a firm believer that their impact at the intersection of good science and good policy will make a positive difference for Utah’s sustainable future.”
In her new role at ILWA, which she starts on Mar. 11, Frohman will leverage her extensive background in strategic initiative development and stakeholder engagement to expand the institute's impact on community and business partnerships for Utah’s shared resources.
Initially, Frohman will coordinate the institute’s involvement with the Utah Air and Water Innovation Grant through the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity, engage on ILWA’s participation with the Salt Lake City 2034 Olympics sustainability committee, and develop resources for Utah business sustainability.

Her deep knowledge of our statewide communities and her passion for sustainability and stewardship will be instrumental in our efforts to connect critical land, water, and air research with decision makers in the state."
Stephanie holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. Prior to EDCUtah, she worked in medical device engineering and software account management and dedicated a year to AmeriCorps service. She is an avid skier, hiker, and world traveler. In 2018, she took an extended leave of absence to backpack the world with her husband and two daughters.
USU’s Janet Quinney Lawson Institute for Land, Water, and Air was established in 2021 with endorsement by the Utah Legislature.
