Basic & Advanced Courses

Basic courses are available to any admitted USU student without any military commitment and provide valuable instruction in leadership.Whereas, advanced courses are only available to students who have contracted for military service.

Basic & Advanced Camp

If Basic camp is attended, credit for all basic classes can be awarded; however, you must be a contracted cadet for commission into Advanced Camp.

Basic Camp

Basic Camp Basic Camp is designed for cadets who are unable to complete their freshman and sophomore military science classes or attend Basic Training. Basic Camp is the premier leadership program of its kind in the United States. An intense four-week introduction to Army life and leadership training of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC). Upon successful completion of the course, graduates can take part in ROTC at their college as a third-year student in the four-year program. The aim of the course is to motivate and qualify Cadets for entry into the Senior ROTC program as Juniors.

Basic Camp Information

Advanced Camp

Advanced Camp Cadet Summer Training (CST) is held annually at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and is the U.S. Army's largest training exercise. Advanced Camp is the U.S. Army Cadet Command's capstone training event and assesses each cadet’s ability to be commissioned as an officer. Assessments prior to commissioning are mandated by Congress. Most Army Cadets attend Advanced Camp between their junior and senior undergraduate years after having contracted to join the Army. Successful completion of Advanced Camp is a prerequisite to becoming an Army officer through ROTC.
