Army ROTC
The USU Army ROTC takes you beyond the classroom experience and is designed to train, educate and prepare future leaders. You will learn unique skills and receive unparalleled training that applies not only to the military, but also to everyday life. Army ROTC provides you with the tools to become an Army Officer without interfering with your other classes. ROTC also provides you with discipline and money for tuition while enhancing your college experience.
Enrollment Options
If you're interested in enrolling in Utah State Army ROTC you can start by enrolling in our Military Science 1010 (Fall) and Military Science 1020 (Spring). If you have two or more years remaining toward your undergraduate degree but not enough time to complete Freshman and Sophomore years of ROTC, you can enter the ROTC by completing the Basic Camp Course held at Fort Knox, Kentucky, during the summer.
Please stop by the military science building or contact us about other ways to join the USU Army ROTC and incentives available, including opportunities to compete for two-, three-, or four-year scholarships.
Resident Tuition for ROTC Participants
With the passage of Utah H.B. 177 (ROTC Resident Student Status), effective July 1, 2026, a student who is enrolled at an institution, participates in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps at an institution, and is eligible to enlist in a branch of the United States military may be granted Utah resident student status for tuition purposes. Students do not need to submit a residency application for this specific ROTC Participant exemption. The Residency Office will coordinate with the Army and Air Force ROTC Departments to determine which students are enrolled and eligible. This determination will be made at the end of the third week of each fall and spring semester. The Residency Office will then update the residency status for eligible students in the USU system accordingly. If the student withdraws from the program, their tuition will revert to nonresident status. Students are encouraged to apply for residency under a different exemption if they qualify or if they withdraw from the program. Email residency@usu.edu with any questions.
