Farmers Market Vendor Guidelines

Statement of Purpose

Farmers markets exemplify sustainability by bringing community members together to purchase organic produce, and local crafts, food and products. The purpose of the USU Farmers Market is to bring community members together to purchase locally-made and locally-grown food, crafts and other products.

Who can sell at the market?

In keeping with the purpose of the market, all products must be grown, raised, produced, or handmade by the vendor within an 80-mile radius of the USU main campus in Logan, Utah.

Prohibited items:

  • Items grown, raised, or made outside of the 80-mile radius
  • Carnival-type, high-sugar foods (e.g., cotton candy, snow cones)
  • Value-added foods and crafts not produced by the seller
  • Private label, franchises, and multi-level marketing products
  • Items with offensive or explicit language or images
  • Styrofoam packaging

A note for vendors who sell thrifted items: Upcycled, value-added products are allowed at the market. For example, a thrifted item of clothing embroidered with an original design would be allowed, but not the thrifted item itself.

Market Day, Time and Location

The USU Farmers Market is held every Wednesday from 11am to 3 pm at the TSC Fountain Area on the south side of the Taggart Student Center. Vendors need to arrive 30-60 mins early for set-up, and plan to stay about an hour after for take-down. Please arrive at or before 10:30am to ensure market is set up before we open. Your booth must be taken down and before 4pm because USU Event Services arrives at 4pm to collect tables and chairs.

2026 Market Dates: Every Wednesday from September 9 – October 14

**We will contact you by 4 pm the night before market to notify of any weather-related cancellation**

Market Vendor Application

Applications can be found on our USU website. Vendors will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. The market’s need for particular items not currently offered will also be considered. Due to our limited space, we cannot accept all vendors. If there is not room, we can put you on our waiting list. Remember: Students do not have a lot of extra spending money or space, so small, inexpensive items are most likely to sell!

Vendor Fees

There is no fee to participate; however, vendors must pay for their own parking during the market (11-3).

Vendor Set Up

The Farmers Market Coordinator assigns all vendor booth locations and takes into account needs for electricity (which is very limited) and emergency fire lanes. Registered vendors will be provided a table and 2 chairs on a first-come, first-served basis, but will need to provide their own canopy with a 40lb weight for each leg. If your canopy is larger than the average 10 x 10, please let the Farmers Market Coordinator know.

Loading/Unloading

Vendors must move their vehicle ASAP after unloading. Please unload your car BEFORE you set up. Do NOT set up before you move your car. For all vendors to complete their set up before the market opens, all vehicles must be fully unloaded and parked away from the market site by 10:45 am.

Please note: Due to safety, early booth disassembly is not allowed until the market closes at 3 pm. If you sell out early, cover your tables and come back at 3:00pm to dismantle. If you have an emergency, please contact the market coordinator.

Parking

Parking can be found in both the TSC Big Blue Terrace, the TSC Visitor Lot, or the Aggie Terrace. Pricing is the same for all options ($10 per day) and vendors are responsible for paying the parking fee. Follow the directions of the posted Text to Pay signs in these parking areas. Parking must be paid for when you park, not when you leave.

Waste

We hope to establish the USU Farmers Market as a “zero waste” event. We strongly encourage this by asking vendors to package and serve food only on items that are compostable, recyclable #1 or #2 plastic, or reusable, including plates, eating utensils, bags and other materials. Styrofoam packaging, cups, or plates are prohibited.

Licenses, Insurance, Permits

There are many guidelines about selling prepared food in Utah

  • Vendors selling whole, uncut produce, are exempt from needing a permit
  • Vendors selling food that was made in their homes should consult the Cottage Food Production Law and the Home Consumption and Homemade Food Act pages of the Utah Department of Agriculture & Food. You will be asked in the application which of these guidelines you are prepared to follow, including any labeling requirements
  • Vendors selling food that is prepared onsite must obtain all permits required by the Bear River Health Department
  • If you are providing samples of your produce or food items, you are also required to obtain permits from the Bear River Health Department

Double Your Bucks Program

The Double Your Bucks program allows USU students to purchase two-for-one tokens, which can be used on produce or other food items. Participants in Double Your Bucks can double up to $6 per market. For example, if a participant purchases the maximum amount of $3, they will receive $6 in tokens to spend on eligible market items. This program helps stretch students' dollars and makes your products accessible to more students!

If you participate in the Double Your Bucks program, a check will be sent to you weekly or monthly for the value of the tokens you received at the market. Off-campus vendors participating in this program must submit a W9 form to Utah State University.

Indemnification

Vendors assume full liability for the products they sell and agree to hold Utah State University harmless from and against any claim of injury, or damage by any buyer, vendor, or other persons, resulting from the use, consumption, disposition, display, or marketing of vendors’ products. Utah State University is not liable for any injury, theft, or damage to either the buyer or vendor (or their property), arising out of or pertaining to preparation for or participation in the Market. Vendors further agree to indemnify and hold Utah State University harmless from and against any claims for such injury, theft or damage.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Farmers Market Coordinator.
