Conserving Rare Plants and Private Wetlands in Cache Valley

Participants are able to inspect the delicate and rare orchid Ute Ladies-Tresses through the eyes of both a poet and scientist at an event June 8.
Mark Brunson, professor of environment and society at USU, will speak at noon, Wednesday, June 8, at Herm’s Inn, 1435 Canyon Road, Logan. Star Coulbrooke, Logan City poet laureate, will open the event with the reading of her nature poetry.
The free event is titled “Bear River Land Conservancy: Protecting private wetlands and rare plants in northern Utah.”
Presented by the Cache Master Gardeners and sponsored by Utah State University’s Department of English and the Bridgerland Audubon society, the dialogue will focus on preservation of this extraordinary bloom, which thrives on Bear River Land Conservancy land in Cache Valley.
Also on the agenda will be discussion on the ongoing efforts to protect and enhance environmentally important wetland areas in a way that also preserves the rights of private landowners in northern Utah.
