Award-Winning "Vagina Monologues" Coming To Utah State
Eve Ensler’s Obie-Award-winning play The Vagina Monologues, is set to come to Utah State University Feb.14-16 with pre-performance talks at 6:15 p.m. and performances at 7 p.m. at the Taggart Student Center Auditorium. Proceeds will go to local programs to help stop violence against women.
The production will be directed by Artemis Preeshl and co-directed by Robbin Black from Utah State University’s Theatre Arts Department. Students, staff and faculty members, as well as community members, will perform the monologues.
“I saw the Off-Broadway production in New York,” Preeshl said. “I was pleasantly surprised that the male-female ratio of the audience was very balanced. The Vagina Monologues moved many people, including myself, to laughter and tears.”
The publication of The Vagina Monologues in 1998 led to the V-Day Initiative, a movement to eliminate worldwide violence against women and girls.
“This production offers an opportunity for students, faculty, staff and community members to work together toward a common goal: raising money to stop violence against women and through an artistic medium,” Preeshl said.
Viewer discretion advised for strong language and sexually explicit themes.
Various productions of The Vagina Monologues will be presented on campuses across Utah this year, including the University of Utah, Weber State University, Southern Utah University and Utah Valley State College. Park City will also host a production this year.
