Chasing Shooting Stars

A meteorite is one extraterrestrial souvenir you can actually hold in your hand. And for some, interest in these remnants of shooting stars moves beyond curiosity to obsession. Utah State University professor Chris Cokinos is compiling stories of meteorite hunters, whose pursuits are as fascinating as the rocks themselves. The fact that each specimen has traveled through outer space explains meteorites’ enduring allure, he says.
