University Libraries at Utah State University hosts its seventh Human Library Sept. 27-30. The campus and local communities are invited to stop at the Merrill-Cazier Library and check out a human “book.”
The Human Library is an innovative approach to dialogue and interaction.
The Human Library offers “living books” to be checked out for a conversation. Each human book is unique and has something to share regarding his or her experiences, perspectives, values or beliefs. Readers are encouraged to select books that offer new experiences and viewpoints so that both the book and the reader can learn something new and foster understanding through shared conversation.
Those interested can stop at Merrill-Cazier Library Room 101 daily, Sept. 27-30, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., to review the catalog of books, choose and available title and then have a one-on-one conversation with that book. Checkout period is 15 minutes and the book can be renewed if further conversation is needed.
A sampling from the Catalog of Books includes “Biological Mutiny,” “Do-It-Yourself Punk Rock Buddhist,” “Fat: A Journey OR the Skinny on Being Fat,” “To Protect and Serve — Stories Behind the Badge” and “Waking Up to My Own Life,” among many others.
A list, with extended descriptions of this year’s books, can be found online by clicking the CATALOG SEPT. 2016 tab on the Human Library webpage.
