Four County Economic Summit to be Held Sept. 28

The first “What’s Goin’ Down Up North” business and economic development summit will be held Thursday, Sept. 28, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Utah State University Innovation Campus. Reservations are due Monday, Sept. 25, by noon. Registration is $25.

Business and economic development in Box Elder, Cache, Franklin and Rich counties will be showcased.

“This is a valuable opportunity to educate oneself on local economic development happenings, infrastructure improvements and business activity,” said Cindy Bilskie, community and economic development director for the Bear River Association of Governments.

Two fast track sessions will feature valuable resources and local business success stories. Information regarding local and state economic development initiatives will also be presented. Local businesses that are considered economic engines of northern Utah and southern Idaho will share success stories, expansion plans, vendor opportunities, best practices and more. These featured businesses buy locally, add value to local products or services, are part of an industry cluster, have synergistic relationships with other businesses, are an important part of the supply chain or have a strong multiplier effect.

A workshop on developing international business opportunities will be held immediately following the summit from 1:45 to 3:15 p.m. for no additional charge.

“This is a great way to get businesses talking to each other so they can understand what opportunities there are for buying and selling locally,” Hall said. “For example, a lot of local businesses go to Salt Lake for products they could get locally. Working together could reduce the cost of doing business and keeps more money in our local economy.”

Featured presenters include Jason Perry, director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development; Ned Weinshenker, vice president of USU Strategic Ventures and Economic Development; John Matthews, northern regional economist, Department of Workforce Services; Jeff Edwards, executive director of EDCUtah and Leigh von der Esch, director of the Utah Office of Tourism.

USU Innovation Campus is located at 489 East 1650 North Research Parkway in North Logan.
