Interim Executive Director Named For USU Tooele Regional Campus

Vincent Lafferty has been named interim executive director to oversee the Utah State University Tooele Regional Campus. A nationwide search is being conducted for a new dean/executive director to oversee the USU Tooele campus.

“The appointment of Vince Lafferty ensures the important work started by Kathleen Robinson, the previous interim executive director, will continue while USU conducts the search for a new dean,” said Ronda Menlove, vice provost for Regional Campuses and Distance Education. “The new dean will bring a level of academic leadership that signals maturing of the campus and increasing numbers of faculty members and degree programs.”

 

Lafferty has been involved with USU’s Regional Campus and Distance Education system for 34 years. He began in the Uintah Basin as a history instructor and later became associate director of the USU Uintah Basin Regional Campus in 1974. He moved to Tooele in 1984 where he served as executive director of the USU Tooele Regional Campus. In 1999, Lafferty moved to Logan where he was named director of distance education. In 2005, he was named executive director of concurrent education and academic programs.

 

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to go back to Tooele,” Lafferty said. “I am anxious to continue the tremendous work Kathleen Robinson has been doing the last five years.”

 

Lafferty said he has three goals for his tenure as executive director. First, he will work to ensure the new classroom building addition is completed quickly to best serve the residents of the Tooele area. Second, he will continue the process of hiring qualified faculty who will be housed at the USU Tooele Regional Campus. Third, he plans to strengthen and expand the degree program opportunities for local residents and explore opportunities the USU Tooele Regional Campus can utilize to serve more students.
