Ken Brewer Memorial Planned at Utah State University

A memorial service for former Utah State University faculty member and Utah Poet Laureate Ken Brewer is Saturday, April 29, at 2 p.m. in the Manon Caine Russell Kathryn Caine Wanlass Performance Hall. The memorial is open to the public.

Brewer died at his home March 15.
 
The memorial service includes a number of speakers, including family and friends. Scheduled speakers include Bob Hoover, John Brewer (son), Jennifer Sorensen (daughter), Star Coulbrooke (poet and former student), Glen Wilde, Kevin Holdsworth (son-in-law), Meridith Kirkwood (daughter). Brewer’s wife, Bobbie Stearman, will also speak.
 
Jerry Fuhriman, a local artist and Brewer’s friend, will read “Curl,” a poem Brewer wrote for the dedication of The Performance Hall at USU.
 
The memorial service concludes with a DVD tribute, “A Song for Ken Brewer,” produced by Marina Hall and Dennis Hinkamp. Bob and Joe Sorenson contributed original music for the DVD.
 
Donations to the Kenneth W. Brewer Creative Writing Award can be made at the memorial or through the department of English at USU. Those donating more than $20 will receive a gift copy of “A Song for Ken Brewer.”
