Lois Rudnick to Visit USU for Presentation on Southwestern Art

In a continuing series of events on the Utah State University campus, Lois Rudnick will present a slide lecture about the artists and writers who lived and worked at the Mabel Dodge Luhan house, including Georgia O’Keefe, Maynard Dixon, D.H. Lawrence, Martha Graham and many others.

The presentation, “The House That Mabel Built: Modern American Countercultures and the Lure of New Mexico,” is part of the USU Department of English Speakers Series. Rudnick speaks at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, in USU’s Old Main 121. The event is free and all are invited.

 

Rudnick’s visit is in association with an exhibit entitled Abstracting the Land: Southwestern Transcendentalism. The exhibit is on display at the USU Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art through May 3. She speaks at the museum Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 5 p.m. in the museum’s lobby gallery.

 

Rudnick is professor of English and American Studies and director of the American Studies Program at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Her visit is made possible through support from the department of English, the American Studies program, the department of History, the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art, the Utah Humanities Council, the Utah Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

 

The USU Department of English Speakers Series was established to promote the value of arts and humanities in American public life. The series features faculty writing and research accomplishments and noted visiting authors sharing their work.
