Multicultural “Messiah”

The 4th Annual multicultural production of George F. Handel’s Messiah will be presented April 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall of the Chase Fine Arts Center at Utah State University. The unique event is quickly becoming a tradition in Cache Valley. Sponsored by Utah State’s Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education and Cache Community Connections, the Multicultural Messiah is an outreach to the community through music.

The production features a community ensemble of more than 150 volunteer musicians, on-stage theatrical interpreters of the Deaf and music performed in English and Spanish. The event also features American Sign Language and Spanish-speaking ushers and an overhead photo gallery of great masterpieces of art that coincide with the message of this beloved oratorio, said event organizer John Ribera, an associate professor in the Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education Department.

Admission is free, however, tax-deductible donations are encouraged to support an annual hearing healthcare humanitarian project to underprivileged and underserved patients in Mexico, Ribera said.
