USU Announces New Housing, Dining Grants for Incoming Students

Initially, these grants were only offered to new students at USU’s three residential campuses: Logan, USU Eastern in Price, and Blanding. They have since been extended to new students of all USU's campuses and centers in Utah. This article has been updated to reflect the change.

The date by which students were encouraged to be registered for at least one class has also been extended. The new date is Friday, April 29.

For fall and summer 2022 semesters, Utah State University will offer up to $1,200 for housing and dining grants to new domestic undergraduate students. These funds are available through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund to offset financial hardships related to COVID-19.

After awarding more than $32 million in federal COVID-19 relief aid to current students and knowing Utah’s housing crunch can still be felt, the university hopes to alleviate some stress surrounding housing, said Katie Jo North, the executive director of new student enrollment.

“We are the largest and most established public residential campus in the state, and we pride ourselves in making USU a home away from home,” North added. “Our housing and dining grant means more students have access to housing and food, as well as a quality education despite the effects of the lingering COVID-19 pandemic.”

Funds can be used for both on- and off-campus housing and dining expenses. These new grants are available at all of USU's campuses and centers in Utah and will automatically be offered on a rolling basis to new students who have registered for classes. These grants must be accepted and dispersed by May 1 to align with HEERF.

North encourages students to take the following steps:

Complete online orientation modules.
Be registered for at least one course by Friday, April 29.
Set up direct deposit.
Accept the housing and dining grant by May 1.

In addition to these grants, USU’s Logan campus is opening a new residence hall set for completion July 2022. The new residence hall, Canyon Crest Suites, will house more than 400 students and is expected to be ready for fall 2022.
