LOGAN — Domestic and sexual violence prevention remains the focal point as Utah State University and CAPSA once again collaborated to host more than 300 attendees at the fourth annual Northern Utah Conference to End Violence on June 4 at the Riverwoods Conference Center in Logan.
With the theme "A Call for Collaborative Leadership," this year’s conference brought together professionals, advocates and community leaders to raise awareness as well as share resources and solutions surrounding domestic and sexual violence. Discussions and training sessions at NUCEV are not only educational but help strengthen and build safer communities throughout Northern Utah and beyond.
NUCEV offered general continuing education credits through National Association of Social Workers could be used to fulfill annual Utah POST training requirements by approved law enforcement agencies.
Research shows that survivors experience the best outcomes when there is strong collaboration among law enforcement, advocates and others. NUCEV’s breakout sessions were designed to strengthen cross-sector partnerships, with topics this year including legislative updates on domestic violence, the intersection of substance use and abuse, ethical issues in the justice system and digital stalking.
Keynote speakers for the event were Mark Wynn, a nationally recognized expert on domestic violence and stalking, and Danielle Leukam, an advocate, author and survivor. Wynn’s keynote, “This is Where I Learned Not to Sleep,” highlighted his journey from trauma to advocacy, while Leukam inspired attendees by sharing her story of survival and healing.
