USU Launches Net Price Calculator to Give Students, Families Transparent Cost Estimates

Utah State University has announced a new Net Price Calculator — a modern, mobile-friendly platform that helps students and families understand what they may pay to attend college.

“The college decision is one of the most important financial decisions a student and family will ever make,” said Craig Whyte, executive director of Student Financial Support. “We wanted a tool that goes beyond compliance — one that empowers students with personalized, accurate, and transparent cost estimates.”

The new calculator, built in partnership with Meadow, replaces USU’s previous calculator and provides an intuitive, user-friendly experience that calculates net price based on a student’s unique financial and academic situation.

Built for Every Aggie

USU’s new Net Price Calculator is designed for all prospective undergraduate and graduate students — whether they’re full-time, part-time, first-year, transfer, in-state or out-of-state. Key features include:

• Mobile-first design that works seamlessly on phones, tablets, and desktops.
• Bilingual support in English and Spanish.
• Smart skip logic and helpful tooltips for an easier experience.
• Program- and campus-specific estimates, including Logan, Statewide Campuses, and USU Online.
• Integration of institutional, state, and federal aid programs to reflect funding opportunities.
• Estimated cost by year, term, or full degree — not just a one-size-fits-all number.
• Custom “Next Steps” checklist to guide students after viewing their results.

“We know cost can be a barrier — or at least a major concern,” said Ian Anderson, executive director of Enrollment Strategy and Innovation. “By providing students and families with accurate, personalized estimates upfront, we’re removing confusion and building trust. That’s what college cost transparency is all about.”

Beyond Compliance: A Tool to Drive Enrollment and Equity

While the U.S. Department of Education requires all Title IV institutions to provide a net price calculator, USU’s new solution goes further. It aligns fully with the College Cost Transparency Initiative (CCTI), led by the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA), to ensure clarity, consistency, and fairness in college cost communication.

Utah State University was the first USHE institution to join the College Cost Transparency Initiative and this new tool further strengthens USU’s desire to provide accurate and transparent information.

Meadow’s platform also provides valuable insights to USU administrators, offering real-time analytics on usage, demographics, and student interest. These insights support ongoing efforts to improve access and affordability across the state.

“Students are more likely to apply when they see what college actually costs — and how affordable it can be with aid,” Anderson said. “This tool helps us connect with students early, meet them where they are, and support their journey to enrollment.”
