By Marcus Jensen |
MOAB, Utah — Utah State University Moab took part in a STEMonstrations event at Margaret L. Hopkins Middle School on Sept. 17. The event, which took place over the entire school day, was attended by approximately 380 middle and high school students from across the region.
USU Moab hosted two interactive tables designed to spark curiosity and showcase academic opportunities.
“One of the missions of USU Moab is to be a community-centered institution,” said Samantha Campbell, interim vice president for USU Moab. “We are committed to being active in our community and investing in the success of local youth. This event allowed us to engage with local students, showcase hands-on activities and to perhaps plant a seed in them of wanting to further their education.”
One table highlighted USU Moab’s Biology and Anatomy programs, featuring a hands-on microscope activity that allowed students to explore the microscopic world with a local faculty member. The second table focused on USU Moab’s degree offerings, including an activity spotlighting criminal justice. Students used black light pens to decode hidden messages, combining fun with learning.
In addition, USU Moab Extension hosted an adjacent table, further enriching the experience with educational resources. The Aggie Drone Academy also traveled to Moab specifically for the event, providing students with a dynamic and high-tech demonstration.
Located in the outdoor recreation paradise of Moab and boasting one of the greenest buildings on any USU campus, Utah State University Moab offers students the personalized attention and small class sizes of a small-town college with the resources of a large university. With programs such as Nursing, Elementary Education, Recreation Resource Management and Social Work, technical education in Health Professions, Automotive and Business, and degree options ranging from associate to doctorate degrees, USU Moab offers programs that help fuel local economies and empower individuals and their communities.
