USU Names New Coordinator of Distance Education

Darrell Harris has been named coordinator of distance education for Regional Campuses and Distance Education at Utah State University. He will be filling the position formerly held by Elisa Taylor.

Harris will work with Kevin Shanley, another coordinator of distance education, to oversee scheduling, instructors and contracts for programs of all delivery types. Harris will work specifically with the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services and the College of Engineering. He will also serve as USU’s representative to the Utah Education Network and will supervise instructor support through managing facilitators, evaluations and materials distribution.

“Education from a distance isn’t the future any longer, it’s happening today, and I want to be a part of it,” Harris said. “I am a strong advocate of education and usefulness of technology.”

Harris comes to USU with experience as director of scheduling and instructional improvement at Stevens-Henager College. He also served for two years as dean of education at the Logan and Salt Lake City/Murray campuses of Stevens-Henager College. Harris earned a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Idaho State University and a master’s degree in instructional technology from Utah State University.

Robert Wagner, executive director of distance education at USU, is pleased to have Harris join the distance education team.

“As we seek to continue growing and improving distance education at USU, we look forward to the skills Darrell will bring to our organization,” Wagner said. “Darrell comes to us highly recommended by colleagues who have appreciated his work ethic and innovative spirit.”
