LOGAN — Utah State University’s Heritage & Culture team is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of free events. The celebrations, beginning Sept. 29, will honor the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latin American communities.
A National Hispanic Heritage Month program will take place on from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 29 in the TSC International Lounge. Heritage & Culture has invited community members to present interactive exhibits and share personal perspectives. The event will feature a photography exhibit by J.P. Spicer-Escalante, Nuestros Vecinos (Our Neighbors), showcasing members of the local Hispanic community. Attendees will also connect with campus organizations engaged in activities centered around Hispanic language, culture, research, and education.
The celebration will continue 6 p.m. Oct. 2 in the TSC Ballroom with Fiestas Américas, one of USU's longstanding cultural events originating in 2003 under the name “Salsabration.” This annual event celebrates Latino culture through a mix of dance performances, singers, art displays, traditional foods, and other cultural practices. Attendees are invited to join a high-energy community Zumba session and Latin dancing to finish off the festivities.
National Hispanic Heritage Month, originally established in 1968 and now observed annually from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, recognizes the generations of Hispanic Americans who have enriched the nation's history and society. This monthlong observance coincides with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries, making it a meaningful opportunity to recognize the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic Americans.
USU’s Heritage & Culture fosters community-building through the celebration of heritage and shared experiences. All events are free, and everyone is warmly bienvenido (welcome) to join us para conectar, aprender, y celebrar (to connect, learn, and celebrate).
