USU Uintah Basin Announces New Director of Student Affairs
Utah State University has hired Bob Peterson to direct the student affairs team and assist campus leadership at the Uintah Basin campus. Peterson brings experience in higher education and technical education to his role.
“We are excited to have Bob return to USU and his Aggie roots,” stated James Y. Taylor, associate vice president. “He’s a blue-blooded Aggie and his extensive professional work in student affairs and ability to connect the university mission with our local community and resources will help our region and benefit our students.”
Ultimately, after an extensive search with a highly qualified candidate pool, Peterson was selected by the committee for his perspective working in technical education at UBTech. Peterson held positions as vice president of student services and most recently vice president of advancement.
“He will help us expand and strengthen our partnership, bringing our two institutions closer together to collaborate on academic initiatives and workforce needs,” stated Taylor.
Prior to UBTech, he worked at USU Uintah Basin as the director of student affairs where he managed multiple service units supporting student success. He started at USU as an academic advisor, garnering multiple perspectives of higher education including overseeing concurrent enrollment and teaching courses.
Peterson has spent his entire career working in education. He started his career in Salt Lake City working on a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor as an assistant director. The grant helped support ethnically diverse populations such as Alaskan Natives, Native Hawaiians and Native Americans prepare and apply to colleges throughout the state of Utah.
Peterson attended USU in Logan, earning a bachelor’s in business administration. He earned his master’s in public administration from Brigham Young University. He is a Uintah Basin native who grew up in Roosevelt and graduated from Union High School. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family at his cabin, staying active playing tennis, and watching Aggie athletics. All of his children have attended USU, with three graduates and one currently finishing a degree.
“I am honored to return to USU and look forward to continuing to elevate the Uintah Basin campus,” stated Peterson. “USU provides tremendous value to the local communities they serve, and I am proud to be a part of the Aggie family again.”
