By Logan Wilber |
Utah State University has once again emerged victorious in the annual Blood Battle against Weber State University, solidifying its dominance in the friendly competition.
USU surpassed its goal of collecting 320 units of blood, finishing with an impressive total of 363 units. Each donated unit can help up to three individuals, meaning the 363 units donated by Aggies could potentially save up to 1,089 lives throughout the region.
"Community service is a cornerstone of Utah State’s mission,” said USU President Elizabeth Cantwell. “I’m incredibly grateful to our students, faculty, staff and community members who participated in this year’s Blood Battle. Thanks to their generosity, not only did USU chalk up another Blood Battle win, but we were able to surpass our goal and save more than 1,000 lives. I couldn’t be prouder to bleed Aggie blue.”
This year’s victory marks USU’s sixth consecutive Blood Battle win, showcasing the university’s commitment to community service and the importance of blood donation. The competition has not only fostered a friendly rivalry between the two schools but has also made a significant impact on the local blood supply.
The Blood Battle, which began in 2003, aims to encourage blood donation and has resulted in a combined total of nearly 20,000 units of blood donated to the American Red Cross by the two schools.
