Bolder Way Forward for Utah

Sanpete County

Sanpete County is unique due to our diverse outdoor recreation, cultural attractions, pioneer heritage, and being the home of Snow College. Our county population is over 30,000, and each of our 13 cities and towns has something special to offer. From world famous rock climbing in Maple Canyon, to swimming at Palisade State Park, to individual town day celebrations and Scandinavian Festivals, there is something for everyone. Because grassroots is key to long-term societal change in the Bolder Way Forward (BWF) Framework, a BWF 6-County Coalition including Juab, Millard, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier, and Wayne Counties amplifies the efforts in all the counties and brings the BWF message to every city, town, business, neighborhood, and family. Since the “whole is greater than the sum of the parts,” we look at individuals and organizations currently doing the work in each spoke, or focus area, and elevate existing efforts. By lifting women and girls, we lift all residents.

What Can I Do?

In 2024, Sanpete County Leaders gathered to discuss how to strengthen the impact of girls and women locally – read details here. Highlights included:

  • Leaders emphasized the essential role schools play in developing leadership, confidence, and competence in girls and young women and recognized the essential role graduating from college plays in a woman’s life.
  • Parents in Sanpete County were recognized as the most powerful influence on the lives of their daughters.
  • Attendees highlighted the importance of involving girls and women in civic activities and supporting them in the workplace.
  • Concern over the mental health and physical safety of girls and women emerged as a primary theme.
  • Participants were concerned about the limitations and decreased value culture (why and how we do what we do) has placed on women and girls.

When we listen and respond to concerns regarding the needs of girls and women in Sanpete County, we will be better able to change harmful or ineffective policies and programs, continue effective action, support effective leaders, identify and solve local problems, and create responsive initiatives.
