Colleagues,

We, at the Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP), have a number of announcements for December:

First, we are excited about our next Utah Women’s Leadership Speaker & Dialogue Series free event, which is titled, “She Talks Utah: Celebrating Utah Women: Remembering the Past to Shape Our Future” (TedTalk-like format). It will be held on January 30 (6:30-8:30pm) at UVU (live streaming available too). The five speakers will include Lisa Valentine Clark, Neylan McBaine, Lita Little Giddins, Jennifer Napier-Pearce, & Paula Fellingham. You can RSVP online now!

Second, three other upcoming UWLP events include:

• The Real Lives of Utah Women (Collaborating with The Salt Lake Tribune, Dec 12, 8:00- 10:00am, Miller Campus, SLCC)
• Identifying and Resolving Aspirational Shame (Dr. Julie de Azevedo Hanks, Jan. 14, 3:30- 5:00pm, UVU)
• The Status of Women Worldwide: Becoming Informed & Empowered as Global Citizens (Sharon Eubank & Valerie Hudson, Feb 19, 6:30-8:30pm, UVU, RSVP here)

Third, see five new UWLP resources available this month:

• WCID: What Academic Advisors Can Do to Strengthen the Impact of Utah Girls and Women

Fourth, here are some important events that our partners are hosting:

• Dec. 3: Holiday Open House, Women’s Business Forum (Salt Lake Chamber, SLC)
• Dec. 3: Champions of Change Signing Event (Better Days 2020, Provo)
• January 17: Celebrating the Political Kaleidoscope (Save the Date, Real Women Run, SLC)
• January 18: Real Women Run Winter Training (Save the Date, Real Women Run, SLC)
• January 28: Transformational Learning: The Key to Advancing Your Career as Women

Fifth, a few announcements for partners: 1) Better Days 2020 launches Utah HERitage, a statewide campaign to commemorate Utah women's history and our suffrage anniversaries in 2020. With materials and tools for schools, cities, counties and organizations, Utah HERitage offers you a way to be a part of history. Download a toolkit, get supplies for a celebration, or add your event to the calendar at http://www.utahheritage.org; and 2) did you know that in 1980 Utah ranked 5th nationally in voter turnout; yet, by 2016, the state had sunk to 39th? We are partnering with VOTERISE (a Utah-based nonpartisan, 501 (C)(3) nonprofit) to help change this. Their emphasis is to educate, empower, and engage Utah’s 18-29 year-olds, and they have a special initiative for women called the 2020 Challenge. Their goal is to recruit 1,000 Ambassadors to each commit to registering 20 young women in Utah to vote.
