June 2020 Newsletter

Colleagues,

I hope you are all well; we are mindful of our community at this extremely difficult time. We (Utah Women & Leadership Project) would like to announce the following reports, events, and resources for this month:

First, I would like to thank Utah Valley University for being the host university for the UWLP through the years. This will be my last newsletter from my UVU email as I’ll be moving to the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University as the Inaugural Karen Haight Huntsman Endowed Professor of Leadership. The Project will move with me and fits nicely with USU’s land-grant statewide mission; a new UWLP website will launch July 1, 2020, but will still be linked to www.utwomen.org. In addition to the Huntsman School, my team and I will also be working directly with USU Extension. UVU will remain a key partner to the UWLP as we continue forward with this work.

Second, we are currently collecting data for three different Utah studies and looking for women to participate in surveys (as relevant): 1) Understanding and Responding to Sexist Comments: click on title if you would like to share sexist comments you have experienced or heard as a woman; 2) The Experiences of Women Serving in Elected Office in Utah: click on the study title if you fit that criteria and would like to participate; and 3) Understanding the Leadership Path of Women in Government: click on this title if you worked in non-elected roles in city, county, or state government. Please forward these links to others you know who fit these descriptions and might want to contribute to this research.

Third, we have a few resources to highlight this month. Here is the link to a new “What Can I Do?” idea sheet titled What Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Specialists Can Do to Strengthen the Impact of Utah Women of Color. In addition, we are releasing the videos from our Feb 19 event at UVU titled “The Status of Women Worldwide: Becoming Informed & Empowered as Global Citizens.” See the videos here: Dr. Valerie Hudson and Sharon Eubank.

Fourth, I am working with UVU Executive Education to offer a fall Women’s Leadership Certificate Program titled “Unleash Your Leadership Potential: Learn, Lead, and Lift.” I’ll be leading 12-16 women through the program and will have other experts facilitating sessions as well. This in-depth, comprehensive program will include six full days of training (Aug. 27-28, Oct 1-2, and Nov 12-13) in Lehi or online (depending on where things are by then), as well as coaching (see other details online).

Finally, check out the following editorials, articles, and podcasts from May:

Join us on the UWLP social media platforms: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. See the community calendar as well. Email uwlp@usu.edu to let us know you want to receive these updates to your inbox.

Stay safe and healthy this month!

Susan
