Colleagues,
I have a number of Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) announcements for July (you would think things would slow down in the summer but they have not!):
First, we are pleased to announce the release of a new research and policy brief titled “An Analysis of Utah Media: Women & Politics.” Thanks to co-researchers Rebecca B. West, Lindsey Phillips, Trish Hatch, and Dr. April Townsend for their fabulous work on this brief.
Second, we just released a new policy white paper titled “Addressing the Gender Pay Gap in Utah with State Equal Pay Laws.” We commissioned Jenna Gould, a policy analyst, who did an in-depth analysis of all 50 state’s gender pay gap public policies. Recommendations for Utah are provided.
Third, we have two free events coming up (RSVP online) sponsored by the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, USU Extension, and the Utah Education Network (UEN):
- A Conversation on the Impact of COVID-19 on Utah Women and Work (Aug. 25, Noon-1:15pm, Virtual)
- A Fireside Chat with Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson on Women and Leadership (Oct. 1, Noon-1:15pm; RSVP to attend either at USU Brigham City Campus or online)
Fourth, we have three resources to highlight this month:
- As part of our partnership with the Utah Governor/Lt. Governor’s One Utah Roadmap efforts, this Community Asset Map is an important resource just released that will help women and influencers find available resources focused on women. This searchable tool shows women's groups, networks, and associations in Utah, as well as closely aligned entities that provide additional services that are particularly important for women.
- In partnership with Utah Public Radio, we have released a new podcast titled “The Gender Wage Gap: Digging Deep into Understanding The Complexity” that discusses the issue of the gender wage gap and features highlights from an August 2020 online Women’s Leadership Forum. I’m joined by Katie Hudman, Senator Luz Escamilla, Carrie Mayne, and Erin Jemison.
- We recently updated the infographics titled “Childcare: What Utahns Need to Know” and “Sexual Harassment: What Utahns Need to Know.” The 2-page infographics are print-friendly and provide visual representation of the data and statistics found in the accompanying research snapshots.
Finally, check out the following editorials and articles from the last month:
