October 2024 Newsletter

Colleagues,

I have a number of Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) announcements for October:

First, we are pleased to announce the release of a new research and policy brief titled “The Status of Women Leaders in Utah Business: A 2024 Update.” Additionally, we have released a new “What Can I Do?” idea sheet for Piute County (based on a community gathering). Thanks to everyone involved in these publications.

Second, the UWLP is conducting a statewide study to explore more deeply Utahns’ understanding, awareness, attitudes, concerns, and perceptions around challenges that women and girls face (second year in a row). We welcome all individuals living in the state age 18 or older to participate. The survey will take 10-20 minutes to complete. I am the primary researcher for this study. If you have questions or concerns, you can contact me at uwlp@usu.edu (USU IRB 14623). You can participate by clicking here.

Third, we have an online event coming up October 16 titled “Nurturing Hope in Ourselves and Others: The Science of Hope and Well-Being.” This online presentation and discussion with Dr. Chan Hellman—a professor of social work at the University of Oklahoma – Tulsa, the Executive Director of the Hope Research Center, and the author of Hope Rising—will introduce the science and power of hope, how trauma and adversity impact hope, and practical strategies for building resilience in individuals and communities. Nubia Peña will join as a co-moderator as well.

Fourth, we have a few resources to highlight this month:

Fifth, here are some of our partners’ upcoming events (check out our community calendar for all events in Utah for girls and women):
