Spring Nature Walks, Saturdays, 10 a.m. Join us for an easy stroll and learn about the history of Swaner, what animals and plants call the preserve home, and how the preserve changes through the seasons. Boots or mudshoes recommended. Nature enthusiasts of all ages are welcome. Reservations for nature walks are suggested. There is a $5 fee for non-members, free for members. 10:00 am - 4:00 pm    Pioneers of the Oregon and California Trails at the Museum of Anthropology

Hundreds of thousands of emigrants pushed west during the mid-1800s in pursuit of a dream. Many pioneers following the Oregon and California Trails migrated through northern Utah. Join us at the museum for an illustrated lecture at 1 p.m. that will provide an in-depth look at what life was like on the trail. Throughout the day, kids can make pioneer crafts and play the classic “Oregon Trail” computer game. The museum is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and admission is always FREE!

Geocaching on the Swaner Preserve -- Enjoy exploring the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter while you learn to geocache! Geocaching will be offered every second Thursday and Saturday of each month during the summer. The following are the scheduled dates: *Thursday, June 13, 4 p.m.; *Saturday, June 15, 11 a.m.; *Thursday, July 11, 4 p.m.; *Saturday, July 13, 11 a.m.; *Thursday, Aug. 8, 4 p.m.; and *Saturday, Aug. 10, 11 a.m. The activity will take 1 hour and reservations are required. Swaner can host 7 individuals or teams for each session and an additional 3 individuals or teams can participate if they have their own GPS units. Free to members $5 for nonmembers. 11:00 am - 4:00 pm    'New Acquisitions 2013' art exhibit

This exhibit features nine works of art recently donated to the Museum by the late Joe Austin. These artworks are avant garde pieces from the 1970s and 1980s by artists working in the Los Angeles area and include an early painting by Lari Pittman. Beginning in 2005, Joe Austin gave a number of important artworks to the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art. He died in March 2013 in Los Angeles at the age of 74. Mr. Austin donated modern and contemporary artworks by Alison Saar, Charles Gaines, Dewain Valentine and Peter Shire among others. A graduate of Harvard Law School, he was a successful attorney and a passionate supporter of the visual arts throughout his life. This selection of artwork from the permanent collection embraces a diverse range of forms and showcases work by important women artists. Rather than representing a certain artistic style or focusing on specific subjects depicted by women, this exhibition features a variety of styles and subjects. Included are representations of the female form, critiques of the objectification of the female body, and experiments with total abstraction. Highlights include posters by the Guerilla Girls, an installation piece by Ilene Segalove, photography from the second wave of feminism and minimalist abstraction. Climbing Wall Hours: Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. The Swaner EcoCenter indoor, wetland-themed climbing wall is open every Saturday from 1-3 p.m. Free for members, $5 per person for non-members. Open to all ages. We provide the climbing harness. Climbers under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult to sign a liability waiver.
