Jennifer Schlott Signs Training Camp Contract with Indiana Fever

Jennifer Schlott begins a training camp contract with the WNBA's Indiana Fever April 27.

A season of firsts continues for Utah State [University] women's basketball player Jennifer Schlott, as the guard was signed to a training camp contract by the WNBA’s Indiana Fever. The announcement was made Wednesday, April 15, by Fever President and General Manager Kelly Krauskopf.

Schlott will attend the training camp in Indianapolis beginning April 27.

She joins a Fever backcourt that includes free agent acquisition Marissa Coleman, plus returners Briann January, Shavonte Zellous, Karima Christmas and Layshia Clarendon. Schlott, an honorable mention AP All-American, joins Fever first round draftees Natasha Howard from Florida State and Natalie Achonwa from Notre Dame. Indiana also picked Gonzaga guard Haiden Palmer with the 29th overall selection to complete its draft.

“I am going to go to training camp and see what happens,” Schlott said. “I am just going to go out and compete for a spot on the team. It is very exciting. It was a surprise. I thought that it might happen, but I didn't think it would happen so soon.”

As a senior, Schlott broke several school and Mountain West records this season. Schlott broke both the Mountain West and Utah State single-season record for points scored with 811. She also set the MW record for single-season scoring, averaging 26.2 ppg in overall games and 27.2 ppg in league contests. She ended her four years at USU with the career points record with 1,566.

Schlott also ended her career breaking the Utah State record for career assists with 436, while her 192 assists this season broke the USU single-season record. The guard shattered the school record for single-game scoring with 44 points against UC Santa Barbara Dec. 19. She became the first USU player to break the 40-point mark, as the previous school record was 38 points by Pat Montgomery against Weber State in 1979. She is also the eighth Utah State men or women’s basketball player to score at least 44 points.

“It is a blessing,” Schlott said. “A year ago, I never thought that this would happen. I am just really lucky with all the support that I have gotten from all of my teammates and coaches here at Utah State."
