Photoshelter

This digital asset management system will provide the best curated images available of Utah State University. This growing gallery is available to students, faculty, staff and media outlets to use to represent Aggies. Below, you'll find information regarding photo use, our approach to keywording and a tutorial video for photoshelter to help you get the right photos.

Third-Party & Commercial Use

Images on Photoshelter are not for third-party or commercial use without permission from University Marketing & Communications, Trademarks & Licensing.

Editorial use is allowed with attribution. Editorial use refers to the use of images or content in a manner that illustrates or accompanies journalistic content, typically for news, commentary, or educational purposes. This type of use is distinct from commercial use, which is aimed at advertising or promoting products, services, or brands.

Marketing Use

For marketing use within organizations and departments at Utah State University, please use images with the model release keyword. For high profile and more permanent use of images (think Billboard, magazine cover etc), reach out to the University Marketing & Communications, Marketing Team. We make an effort to contact the model in the image and make them aware of the use.

Please be cautious about misrepresenting models in photos. Examples include using a student to highlight mental health issues, having them represent a college or department they aren't enrolled in, or implying they are promoting something they aren't aware of or don't actually support.

Keywords

Keywords are an important process that allows you to discover the correct images. Here's an example of our approach to tagging images so you can effectively use the search function to find them. These are just some of the tags we use.

AI has now been added to Photoshelter allowing you to search for things that aren't necessarily tagged. USU specific terminology won't provide good results via AI, but general objects can be valuable such as phone, computer, book, mountain, water etc.
