About the Community

Living Here

The Student Living Center is a community of just over 700 residents spread throughout nine buildings. It is situated in the Northeast corner of USU's main campus, by one of Logan City’s residential neighborhoods. Its location and layout give it a feel of being its own small neighborhood, rather than a traditional on-campus residence area.

Students can take advantage of Housing and Residence Life’s educational programming and in-depth support system, which includes Resident Assistants in each building as well as our Area Council, while still maintaining a large part of the autonomy associated with off-campus living.

Area Amenities

Residents living in the Student Living Center have access to:

  • Fitness Room
  • Computer Lab
  • Large Conference Room
  • Sand Volleyball
  • Gas Fire Pit
  • Pool Table
  • Ping Pong Table
  • Lounge Areas

Residents can also check-out the following items for free at the Area Office (located in the Lundstrom Area Office):

  • Billiards equipment
  • Ping Pong equipment
  • Laser Tag equipment
  • DVDs

Traditions

Tradition is an exciting part of the Student Living Center experience. We open each year with our annual "SLCnic." The SLCnic is a large-scale cookout with games, prizes and music.

Every Halloween we also do a Haunted House in the Lundstrom Student Center. We select a new theme each year for our staff to get creative with new chills and thrills.

Another favorite tradition is the Super Bowl party. We host one of the largest parties on campus. We may not be able to promise your team will win, but we can promise we'll bring the wings.

Area Council

The Student Living Center Area Council is a great way to develop leadership skills and provides an opportunity to meet new people and make your on-campus experience more memorable. A part of the housing-wide Residence Hall Association (RHA), Area Council members will have the opportunity to attend RHA retreats, become involved in programming (in the Student Living Center and campus-wide), and make a real difference in the community through continuous improvement initiatives. In addition, the Area Council receives a budget each year for its own programming.

Past area councils have planned or assisted with programs and activities in the Student Living Center, including the RHA Holiday Dinner, Hot Chocolate Night, and the Haunted House. If you are interested in becoming a Residence Life Staff Member, such as a Resident Assistant, Area Council is a fantastic place to begin networking.

For best washing results:

  • Use 2 Tbsp. of concentrated HE detergent (it's specially formulated for these machines)
  • Choose a cold water setting to save energy
  • Wash only full loads

For best drying results:

  • Clean dryer filter before use

What To Bring

Ideas

Our Pinterest page has some great visual ideas and suggestions for what to bring. You can also see what things are best to leave at home.

Make Your "Home Away From Home"

Bring these items and make it your "home away from home."

  • Bedding: sheets, blankets, pillow, pillowcases, and bedspread. Mattresses are 36” x 80” (Twin XL, longer than a regular twin bed)
  • Towels and toiletries
  • Laundry basket
  • Alarm clock
  • Stereo, radio
  • Computer
  • Wall decor, throw pillows, various decorative items as desired.

(Please do not use anything that may damage the walls to hang décor. We recommend using Command Picture Hanging Strips/Hooks by 3M)

In addition to your personal belongings, you might want to bring kitchen and cooking supplies. You may even want to wait until after you move in and purchase items after consulting each other. The following is a list of possibilities:

  • Dishes, silverware, glasses, serving dishes
  • Mixing bowls, hand mixer
  • Cutting board, measuring cups and spoons
  • Salt and pepper shakers
  • Dishtowels, dishcloths, hot pads
  • Frying pan, pots and pans
  • Dish drainer
  • Egg beater, strainer, can opener
  • Cheese grater, vegetable peeler
  • Clothes iron, small kitchen appliances

Storage space in the building is very limited. Please plan accordingly.

Housekeeping & Maintenance

Residents are responsible for cleaning their room, and cleaning up after themselves in the shared kitchen and bathrooms when applicaple. The bathrooms will be cleaned and stocked with paper hand towels, hand soap and toilet paper by Housing custodial staff. Vacuum cleaners can be checked out for temporary use at the area office. Repairs and regular maintenance of residence halls is done by Housing Facilities staff. Residents may submit maintenance requests as issues arise.
