Recognized Student Organization (RSO) Resources
Fraternities and sororities at Utah State University are considered "Affiliated Student Organizations"—officially recognized by the university, but operating under different policies and procedures than typical student clubs and organizations. While these groups follow unique governance structures, there is significant overlap in the operational tools and resources available to all RSOs.
For this reason, it is strongly encouraged that chapter members familiarize themselves with the USUSA Clubs Handbook, which outlines important campus resources, funding opportunities, event planning guidelines, and other support services available to student organizations—including fraternities and sororities. Understanding these shared tools can help your chapter function more effectively and make the most of what USU offers.
Training and other Support
Utah State University is committed to the success, safety, and development of every fraternity and sorority chapter on campus. Chapters can request a wide range of customized training and support from the Fraternity & Sorority Advisor (FSA) or other university departments to meet their unique needs and goals. Whether you're looking to strengthen your chapter’s leadership, improve risk management practices, foster accountability, or enhance member engagement, the university can provide tailored workshops, presentations, or one-on-one consultations. Common training topics include:
Eligibility:
- Leadership development & officer transitions
- Risk management & event planning
- Mental health & wellness
- Conflict resolution & team dynamics
- Academic support & time management
- Recruitment strategy & retention
- Bystander intervention & hazing prevention
To schedule a training or request support, simply reach out to the FSA at ian.nemelka@usu.edu or the Student Involvement & Leadership Office. We’re here to help your chapter thrive.
FSL Opportunities
Order of Omega:
Order of Omega is the national honor society for fraternity and sorority members who exemplify excellence in academics, leadership, and service. At Utah State, this prestigious group recognizes top-performing FSL students and offers exclusive opportunities for leadership development, networking, and community engagement throughout Cache Valley. Members are selected through a competitive application process each semester.
Apply each semester via the FSL MyUSU page.
Fraternity & Sorority Institute (FSI)
The Fraternity & Sorority Institute is USU’s official orientation experience for new FSL members. Designed for students in their first year of membership, FSI is a one-day “bootcamp” that introduces participants to the core values of Fraternity & Sorority Life, including leadership, identity, service, and pride in the Aggie Greek community. By the end of the day, participants leave empowered to make a meaningful impact in their chapters and the FSL community as a whole.
Register for this semester's FSI on the FSL MyUSU page.
FSL Leadership Transition Conference
The FSL Leadership Transition Conference is designed to help incoming chapter leaders hit the ground running. This hands-on training provides tools for effective leadership, goal-setting, collaboration, and accountability. The conference promotes continuity between outgoing and incoming officers and ensures our community maintains a strong, unified foundation year after year. Typically held at the beginning of Spring Semester, this conference also brings back plenty of USU Greek Alumni to share their wisdom and experiences.
If you would be interested in helping with the conference, please contact the FSA at ian.nemelka@usu.edu
IFC & Panhellenic Executive Positions
In addition to chapter leadership, students can serve in broader roles through the Interfraternity Council (IFC) and the College Panhellenic Council (CPC)—our governing student councils. Each council has five executive positions, elected annually, that represent and advocate for the entire FSL community. These leaders serve as key liaisons to university departments and external stakeholders and help shape the future of Fraternity & Sorority Life at USU. Each position also includes a scholarship award in recognition of this vital campus leadership.
Applications for these executive positions open each November and can be found on the FSL MyUSU Page.
FSL Ambassadors
FSL Ambassadors are the face of our community and some of our most dedicated student leaders. These individuals represent FSL at campus-wide events like Aggie Orientation, Preview Days, and Involvement Fairs. Ambassadors help prospective and new students learn more about Fraternity & Sorority Life, share their personal experiences, and build positive connections that grow our community. They’re approachable, knowledgeable, and always ready to promote the Aggie Greek experience.
Applications open in Spring Semester and can be found on the FSL MyUSU Page.
Rho Gammas (Recruitment Guides)
Rho Gammas are sorority members who temporarily step away from their chapter affiliation to serve as neutral guides during Panhellenic recruitment. These leaders offer support, encouragement, and insight as participants navigate the recruitment process. Assigned to each potential new member, Rho Gammas are trained by FSL staff to answer questions, provide reassurance, and help students find their perfect fit within the sorority community.
Applications open in Spring Semester and can be found on the FSL MyUSU Page.
Event Monitoring Committee (EMC)
The Event Monitoring Committee (EMC) plays a key role in maintaining safety, accountability, and community standards at FSL-sponsored events. Made up of trained volunteers from recognized chapters and Student Involvement & Leadership Office staff, EMC members conduct check-ins at events to ensure compliance with USU policies and the FSL Relationship Agreement. Their work reflects our commitment to peer accountability, responsible event management, and a culture of care in our community.
Applications are always open and can be found on the FSL MyUSU Page.
