Fraternity Recruitment
Joining a fraternity at USU means finding fellowship, academic support, leadership opportunities, and service-driven engagement. Both fall and spring fraternity recruitment are relatively informal, giving potential new members (cand chapters) the freedom to explore multiple options at their own pace. You're encouraged to attend events, meet members, and find the organization that feels like the best fit for you.
Recruitment Format:
- Takes place early each semester (usually between weeks 2 and 4)
- Nightly events hosted by each chapter
- Meet members, ask questions, and get a feel for the organization
- You may receive a bid (a formal invitation to join)
Eligibility:
- Must be a full-time student at Utah State University Logan Campus.
- Each chapter may have individual GPA or eligibility requirements
- Individuals seeking membership must register here ⬅
Sorority Recruitment
Sorority life offers academic support, leadership development, service opportunities, and a home away from home. It’s a powerful way to grow personally and professionally while forming meaningful lifelong bonds.
FALL SEMESTER:
Primary Recruitment is a structured process through which many women choose to join one of our Panhellenic sororities. While most chapters participate in Primary Recruitment, other chapters can follow their own separate intake process. For example, Sigma Alpha's Fall recruitment does not require registration and occurs independently from the Panhellenic formal recruitment schedule.
Format:
- Held in early Fall semester
- Structured schedule over multiple days
- Other obligations such as attendance and participation
- Facilitated by Panhellenic Recruitment Guides (Rho Gammas)
- Requires registration found here ⬅
Eligibility:
- Must be a full-time, fully matriculated student at Utah State University Logan Campus
- Each chapter may have individual GPA or eligibility requirements
- Must not already be a member of another sorority.
SPRING SEMESTER:
Continuous Open Bidding (COB) is an informal recruitment process typically held in the early spring semester. It’s a semi-structured opportunity for eligible women to join Panhellenic chapters that have available spots. COB is facilitated by individual chapters and does not require formal registration. Once again please note that professional sororities like Sigma Alpha have their own recruitment process.
Format:
- Typically held in early Spring semester
- Semi-structured scheduled over multiple days or weeks
- Facilitated by individual chapters
- Does NOT require registration
Eligibility:
- Must be a full-time, fully matriculated student at Utah State University Logan Campus
- Each chapter may have individual GPA or eligibility requirements
- Must not already be a member of another sorority.
Note on Pledging and Hazing
Not all chapters have a formal pledging process, but for those that do, new members typically participate in an 8–10 week period of education and integration after accepting a bid. Each chapter’s approach is unique and designed to build connection and understanding. Our Chapters and the Councils adhere strictly to the USU Hazing Policy. Any concerns should be reported through this form.
Warning About Unrecognized Groups
Fraternities or sororities that are not affiliated with or recognized by Utah State University have not signed the FSL Relationship Agreement and do not follow the same safety, accountability, or conduct standards. These groups operate without university oversight, putting students at greater risk for unsafe behavior, hazing, and lack of support. We recommend joining recognized organizations that are committed to student well-being and university values.

It's a chance to build lifelong friendships, discover your potential, and be part of something bigger than yourself.
What if I only want to join one specific chapter?
Keep an open mind. Don’t rely on stereotypes or others’ opinions. You may find your true home in an unexpected place. It is good to explore all the options and then make an as much of an educated decision as possible.
What does it cost to join?
Each chapter has its own dues and fees. Expect both one-time and semester-based costs anywhere from $100 a semester upwards of $600 a semester depending on chapter. Financial transparency is part of the recruitment process. Don’t be afraid to ask!
What is a “bid”?
A bid is a formal invitation to join a chapter. You may receive multiple bids (fraternity) or be matched with a chapter after the formal process (sorority). There are many slang terms Greeks use in casual conversation. Don’t be afraid to ask what they mean!

Yes! Chapters promote GPA accountability, offer study hours, and celebrate academic achievement.
Can I join if I'm not the “typical Greek type”?
Absolutely. Our community values authenticity. Every chapter has a place for students with diverse interests and personalities. Our community isn't exactly “typical” either!
Can I join if I’m a sophomore, junior, or transfer student?
Yes. Recruitment is open to any eligible full-time student, regardless of class standing.
What happens after I join?
You’ll begin a new member education or pledge process focused on learning the organization’s values, history, and building bonds. You’ll also participate in service and social activities.
