Rod Decker to Speak About Utah Politics at Friends of the Library Lecture

Retired journalist and published author Rod Decker is the keynote speaker for the Friends of the Merrill-Cazier Library Fall Lecture Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. Decker will speak about Utah’s political shift that occurred during the 1970s in room 101.

“For our biannual lectures, the Friends look for an engaging speaker who can present a topic of interest to our members and the public,” Friends of the Merrill-Cazier Library President Joseph Anderson said. “Like his trademark style, I'm sure his talk will be informative and entertaining.”’

Decker argues that Utah’s political atmosphere saw a major shift in the mid-1970s after the sexual revolution in which Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints members began to vote more conservatively to protect the traditional family. He will cover this shift and more in his lecture.

“Mr. Decker has recently published a book on Utah politics after a long career in journalism,” Anderson said. “Everyone should take this opportunity to visit the wonderful Merrill-Cazier Library at USU and hear from a legend of Utah broadcasting.”
