Utah State Cross Country Teams Picked 6th and 7th in MW Midseason Polls

Utah State’s [University] men’s and women’s cross country teams were picked sixth and seventh, respectively, in the Mountain West midseason coaches’ polls, which were released Wednesday afternoon [Oct. 7, 2015] by the league office.

New Mexico’s men’s and women’s teams claimed the top spots. The Lobo women, who are currently ranked No. 1 in the nation according to the USTFCCCA, have won seven consecutive MW Cross Country Championships, while the men have won six straight.

On the women’s side, New Mexico collected 10 first-place votes for a total of 100 points to capture top honors. Boise State received the remaining first-place vote and 91 points to rank second. Colorado State was third with 77 points, followed by Wyoming (71), Air Force (58) and Nevada (57). The Aggies garnered 54 points for seventh, while Fresno (30) San José State (27), San Diego State (20) and UNLV (20) rounded out the poll.

In the men’s poll, the Lobos received five first-place votes and 47 total points. Colorado State garnered three first-place votes and 44 points to rank second. Boise State is third with 35 points, followed by Air Force (33), Wyoming (24), Utah State (19), San José State (13) and Fresno State (9).

The Aggies did not move up or down in either poll. In the MW preseason coaches’ polls the USU men were tabbed sixth and the women seventh.

The 2015 Mountain West Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Nevada at the Montrêux Golf Club in Reno, Nevada, Friday, Oct. 30.

Utah State returns to action this Friday [Oct. 9] when it hosts the USU Invitational. The meet, which also features runners from Boise State, BYU and Weber State, will be held at 2p.m. on the Steve and Dona Reeder Cross Country Course.
