Cache Chamber Honors Utah Public Radio Staffers

When the Cache Chamber of Commerce shines the light on achievers in northern Utah January 17, two Utah Public Radio (UPR) staff members will share the “Small Business Journalist” award.

The Chamber will recognize UPR Program Director Lee Austin and Development Director Bryan Earl during the Chamber’s 95th annual awards banquet, Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Utah State University Taggart Student Center Stevenson Ballroom. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.

 

Utah Public Radio originates from the USU campus and is carried statewide by a system of 27 translators.

 

Before joining UPR in 1980, Austin worked as a news reporter for a commercial news network in Wisconsin. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He is a member of the board of directors of the Utah Humanities Council and the Cache Humane Society. He has volunteered with other community service organizations, and is a past president of the USU Professional Employees Association.

 

Earl has worked for Utah Public Radio for almost 14 years, first as a news reporter and currently as station development director. He also hosts a weekly gardening program, heard Tuesday mornings. He is a 1989 USU journalism graduate and served an internship at KOIN-TV in Portland, Ore. He is a member of the Ambassadors with the Cache Chamber of Commerce and serves with the executive committee of the Professional Employees Association at USU. He also serves on the national board of the Public Radio Association of Development Officers.

 

Utah Public Radio is a service of Utah State University, broadcasting a mix of information, public affairs and fine arts programming. The system is on the air 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 52 weeks a year.

 

UPR is heard on KUSU (91.5 FM) and KUSR (89.5 FM) in Logan.
