Celebrating Excellence: Chamber Concert to Highlight Faculty Talent

By Emma Lee |

LOGAN, Utah — The Caine College of the Arts Department of Music faculty will present their bi-annual Chamber Faculty Concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall. The upcoming concert will feature the music of Franz Liszt, Gregory Wanamaker, Dmitri Shostakovich and Mel Bonis with French horn, flute, saxophone, clarinet, cello and voice.

Students and community members will hear from faculty members within the Department of Music, showcasing the high caliber of the Caine College of the Arts.

“We don’t have a lot of opportunities to perform. It’s primarily just students performing or faculty solo recitals,” said Flute Professor Jeiran Hasan. “This is a way not only to incorporate more faculty, but to do some chamber repertory, which is where we collaborate with other people that maybe we normally wouldn't play with.”

The Faculty Chamber Concert helps introduce new faculty members and welcome them to Caine College of the Arts. This concert will welcome Visiting Saxophone Professor Andrew Stonerock and newly full-time French Horn Professor Joel Ockerman.

Faculty members will give spoken program notes between each piece to help attendees see the faculty’s way of interacting and learn about the music. The music selected for the program will give audience members a wide introduction to chamber music and instrument pairings.

“We have a broad diversity of composers in terms of genre, but also in instrumentation and countries represented. I'm looking forward to that aspect,” Hasan said.

The event offers a relaxed environment to experience chamber music, making it an ideal introduction for those new to the genre.

“This is a really great performance opportunity for someone who has never really been to something like this before, since it’s a whole mixture of people playing, and there's a whole variety of music,” Hasan said.

The Faculty Chamber concert is free and open to the public with no ticket required. The concert will also be livestreamed on the Caine College’s YouTube channel for those who cannot attend in person. For more information, visit the website.
