Creating Wellness 4-Part Workshop Accepting Registrations at USU's NEHMA

Logan, UT — The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art will offer a unique opportunity to support mental wellness through the creative process, exploring ways to gain greater insight into self-awareness, needs and desires.

This Creating Wellness four-part workshop series is designed to help participants gain deeper insight into their emotions, needs, and desires through the healing power of art.

The series will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Nov. 7, 14 and 21 and Dec. 5. It will be led by board-certified art therapist Susie Andruk, ATR-BC. Participants will learn about select artworks from the collection for inspiration and create a mixed-media altered book, created by altering a book by collaging text and images, writing and more.

Pre-registration is required, and the cost is $80. Art supplies will be provided, but participants are asked to bring a book they would like to transform into something that is uniquely theirs.

Each session will begin with inspiration from selected NEHMA artworks and reflective dialogue, followed by hands-on creative exploration. Participants will be guided in transforming a book into a personal work of art that reflects their emotional journey.

This is the museum’s third year offering the Creating Wellness series but the first that will focus on a single art project that participants will finish.

“There is a lot of research confirming what we already knew: that experiences with art and visits to museums both improve our mental health and well-being,” said NEHMA Executive Director Katie Lee-Koven. “The challenge we all face is making time for ourselves. Consider gifting yourself this time to try something new and meet others along the way.”
