Fall is in full swing at Utah State University Eastern, and there’s no better time to step into the Maker’s Loft inside the Library & Learning Commons. The season of rich, vivid colors mirrors the energy and inspiration found in this unique space, where tools, materials and imagination come together.

The Maker’s Loft is a creative makerspace — a hands-on workshop where individuals can design, build and experiment using tools like 3D printers, crafting equipment and design software. The space is also equipped with button makers, laminators, sewing machines, camera kits, a podcast recording room, virtual reality headsets and more — giving visitors endless ways to explore their creativity. It’s a place where curiosity meets creativity, giving students and community members alike the chance to bring ideas to life.

“The Maker’s Loft is a lively place to explore art, design, and so much more,” said Alexis Gonzalez, makerspace programs coordinator. “Autumn is a time of change and learning how to create and customize can be a wonderful outlet. There’s nothing like discovering a new skill or adding a personal touch to your projects while the world around us transforms.”

The Maker’s Loft is designed for makers of all ages and experience levels. Whether one is interested in 3D printing, hands-on design or creative crafting, it provides a visual and tactile environment for experimenting and learning. With the holiday season approaching, visitors can find inspiration for decorations, custom creations or even heartfelt handmade gifts.

Looking ahead, the Maker’s Loft plans to launch a monthly event series in the new year, led by USU Eastern staff and faculty. These programs will focus on skill-building and will be open to students, employees and community members alike.

“Any events we offer will be advertised openly, and we hope to build a program that really brings people together,” Gonzalez added.

The Maker’s Loft welcomes everyone — from beginners curious about trying something new to seasoned makers looking to expand their skills. It’s a community space, welcoming not only USU Eastern students, staff and faculty, but all members of the public. There’s no cost to use the equipment; you only cover the costs of materials or are welcome to bring your own materials.
