National Pile Driving Symposium Wraps up in Cache Valley

From the tallest buildings in the world to the highway overpass close to home, driven piles help support our human-built environment, and the experts who understand them best were at Utah State University the last week of June to learn even more.

Civil engineering experts from around the United States and Puerto Rico were on campus June 22-26 to see the latest in driven pile technologies.

Driven piles are typically long slender columns driven into the earth to support foundations for structures, including bridges and skyscrapers. The group of civil engineering professors and industry leaders spent the week discussing everything from driven pile design to geotechnical considerations.

The 8th Biennial Professors’ Driven Pile Institute is sponsored by the Pile Driving Contractor’s Association of America. Approximately 161 of the nation’s leading engineering professors have completed this intensive, five-day training program.
