Rare Opportunity: Utah Symphony Comes to USU Campus at Unbeatable Price
By Bryan Stalvey |
Prepare for an extraordinary musical experience as the world-renowned Utah Symphony graces the stage at Utah State University campus, presenting a captivating program handpicked by conductor Anna Rakitina. This exceptional event, made possible by the generosity of the USU Caine College of the Arts, offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in the Daines Concert Hall within the Fine Arts building.
This performance is not only a celebration of musical excellence but also a testament to the Caine College of the Arts' commitment to fostering cultural enrichment and accessibility. In a remarkable gesture, tickets are priced at a nominal $10 for the general public and are completely free for USU students, faculty and staff. This gift is made possible from the Caine College of the Arts due to the contributions of the Tanner Trust for Utah Universities.
As Women's History Month draws to a close, conductor Anna Rakitina and acclaimed violinist Sirena Huang will grace the USU stage, promising an unforgettable evening of music. Huang, an international competition gold medalist, will enrapture audiences with her rendition of Dvorák’s enchanting Violin Concerto, infused with the essence of traditional Czech dances. The program will also feature Sibelius’ captivating First Symphony, culminating in the fervent Quasi una fantasia (“Like a Fantasy”). Additionally, the performance will showcase Smetana’s Šárka, drawing inspiration from the Czech legend of female empowerment in "The Maiden’s War."
“It is an honor for the Caine College of the Arts to present one of Utah’s artistic treasures, the Utah Symphony, as part of the Caine College of the Arts Visiting Artists and Scholar Series,” said Caine College of the Arts Dean Nicholas Morrison. “The college thanks the Tanner Trust for Utah Universities for their support, enabling us to provide this performance for Cache Valley and the university community.”
According to the Dean, this event “supports USU’s land grant mission by enriching the community with high-quality arts programming.” Because of this opportunity, the Cache Valley and university communities have access to an excellent art experience, meeting the vision of the college and university at large.
“We hope you will attend and join us in applauding these outstanding musicians,” Morrison said.
