MONTICELLO, Utah — Earlier this summer, Utah State University Blanding hosted its 6th annual Scholarship Golf Tournament. The tournament brought together 18 different teams that helped raise money toward nontraditional scholarships.

Seventy-two golfers and 12 volunteers gathered on the Hideout Golf Course in Monticello on June 6. The event was sponsored by Redd’s Ace Hardware and Hideout Golf Course.

The teams were made up of individuals from across the Four Corners region, with participants coming from Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona.

“The tournament was full of amazing people who traveled from all over the Four Corners region to come and support the campus and what we are trying to do for all of our students,” said Megan Mower-Harris, campus events and community engagement coordinator at USU Blanding.

In addition to the corporate sponsors of the event, several other local businesses showed their support, including Blue Mountain Hospital, San Juan Hospital and Redd’s Ace Hardware.

According to Mower-Harris, a record number of volunteers came together to make the event a success. In past years, the event had as few as four volunteers come forward. This year, the event had 12.

“They gave up some of their Saturday to come and help, and I appreciate them,” Mower-Harris said. “What makes the tournament a success is having a great team to work with. From the employees at the Hideout Golf Course to my events team and the volunteers who come and help.
