The People Behind the Scenes Making Campus Look Beautiful for Commencement

It’s not coincidental that campus tends to look its best before commencement.

Sure, everything from flowers to students may benefit from the changing of the seasons — from the dark and cold winters that Logan enjoys to a bright and warm, but not too warm, springtime.

And yes, of course, the sunshine lasting just that little bit longer through the end of the day does play a role too, because the sun itself hangs just a bit higher in the sky each day along its march to the Summer Solstice.

But, and maybe selfishly in the face of Mother Earth, it actually has more to do with graduates than you may think.

For the campus groundskeepers, commencement is one of the two biggest days of the year — in addition to the return of students in the Fall Semester.
