USU Engineers Tops in the Nation — Again
A student team from Utah State University’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department in the College of Engineering won a recent national design competition sponsored by the Air Force Research Laboratory. The USU team brought home first-place honors from the University Design Challenge, the second first-place finish in as many years.
In August 2012, teams were given a design challenge to build a portable bridge and had nine months to create and build a usable solution. The challenge was to design a system for a team of four special operations forces personnel to cross irrigation canals, travel from rooftop-to-rooftop or cross snow or glacial crevasses under a variety of conditions.
The 2013 winners included: Utah State University, first place; Ohio State University, second place; and Brigham Young University, third place.
A number of news clips reporting the win are included below.
