Utah State University has announced the expansion of its stackable programs across its Statewide Campus system.
USU is introducing new associate degree programs that cater to in-demand industries, providing career-ready education that addresses the specific needs of the rural workforce. By creating a system for credit transfer opportunities of the current 84 Utah System of Higher Education technical programs across the state, USU is expanding opportunities for students statewide.
The new programs, available at various USU Statewide Campuses, include:
- Associate of Business
- Engineering Technology Associate of Applied Science (AAS) / Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS)
- Associate of Applied Science in Cosmetology
- Associate of IT / Cybersecurity
- Small Business Associate of Applied Science (AAS)
These programs are designed in collaboration with USHE’s aligned technical curriculum across Utah to ensure that students receive practical, hands-on training that prepares them for immediate employment in their chosen fields. The stackable nature of these programs allows students to earn certifications that can seamlessly transition into various associate and bachelor’s degrees, facilitating lifelong learning and career advancement.
"USU is committed to providing accessible and relevant education that meets the evolving needs of our students and the workforce," said Brian Warnick, department head for the Technology, Design and Technical Education Department in the College of Agriculture and Applied Science. "Our expanded stackable programs are designed to offer flexible, career-focused education that supports the economic development of rural communities across Utah."
The Associate of Business program provides foundational knowledge in business principles, preparing students for entry-level positions in various industries. It is designed to transfer credits into numerous bachelor programs, including the Huntsman School of Business.
The Engineering Technology AAS/BAS programs offer specialized training in engineering principles and technologies, equipping graduates with the skills needed for technical roles in engineering and manufacturing.
The Associate of Applied Science in Cosmetology combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, preparing students for successful careers in the beauty industry.
The IT / Cybersecurity associate degree addresses the growing demand for cybersecurity professionals, providing students with the skills to protect and secure digital information and prepare for further training in cybersecurity and beyond.
The Small Business AAS program focuses on entrepreneurship and small business management, empowering students to start and manage their own businesses, and leveraging the skills they have received during their technical certificate education.
These programs are part of USU’s ongoing efforts to support Utah's workforce needs, providing residents with access to high-quality education and training that leads to sustainable employment opportunities, encourages lifelong learning, and clear pathways for career development.
"Our expanded stackable programs reflect Utah State’s dedication to providing accessible, high-quality education tailored to the needs of our rural communities,” stated James Y. Taylor, vice president of Statewide Campuses. “It’s our priority to ensure that our students receive industry-relevant training that prepares them for successful careers in today's competitive job market. These programs not only enhance individual career prospects but also contribute to the economic vitality of the regions we serve.”
The collaboration with USHE ensures that the curriculum is aligned with industry standards and employer expectations, enhancing the employability of graduates.
