USU Large Percussion Ensemble, Caine Percussion Quintet Perform at USU Percussion Ensembles Event

By Samantha Isaacson |

LOGAN, Utah — The Caine College of the Arts Department of Music will be hosting the USU Percussion Ensembles event next week.

The concert will consist of performances from the USU Large Percussion Ensemble and the Caine Percussion Quintet and will begin at 7:30 p.m. April 14 in the Daines Concert Hall.

Jason Nicholson, associate professor of percussion, said the event is an opportunity for percussionists to shine.

“The event is a fun way to showcase instruments that people may have never heard before,” Nicholson said. “Percussion ensembles in a band or orchestra are sometimes given parts that are not as in-depth or challenging. This event will allow these percussionists to really showcase their abilities.”

Within a classical theme, the ensembles will be playing works like “Stained Glass” by David Gillingham and “A Ceiling Full of Stars” by Blake Tyson, along with many other well-known works.

Nicholson said that the event will be very engaging for the audience.

“I chose the works in the program to be fun for the students to play, but also for the audience to enjoy,” Nicholson said.

Tickets for this event can be purchased online or at the CCA Box Office, located in the Chase Fine Arts Center.
