USU Moab New EMT Program Now Accepting Applications

MOAB, Utah — Utah State University has announced a brand-new emergency medical technician program at the USU Moab campus. The program, which is part of a partnership with Grand County EMS, is accepting applications.
Through the program students will receive real-world training while working alongside professionals at Grand County EMS, which is an internationally recognized EMS program. This USU EMT certificate program will also benefit the Moab area, where there is an increasing need for EMTs due to the region’s varied landscapes and high levels of outdoor recreation.
“Hands-on, career-focused training allows students to gain practical experience in real-life emergency scenarios, preparing them for the realities of the field,” said Samantha Campbell, interim associate vice president of the USU Moab Campus. “Moab’s unique landscape provides opportunities for EMTs to train in a wide range of environments that are not available in many other locations — from whitewater rescue to mountain responses in the La Sals to the desert terrain surrounding Moab.”
With the strong need for additional EMT resources in the Grand County area, the program is expected to serve as a course to career pipeline for students.
“This program provides a strong pathway for individuals to quickly enter the workforce as EMTs while also serving as an entry point into other medical programs at USU, such as nursing,” Campbell added.
This fall, USU Moab secured ongoing funding for the EMT program with the goal of strengthening the local health care workforce, improving emergency response capacity in Grand County, and encouraging students to build lasting careers within the community.
“We're excited to have them join our class. The knowledge, skills, and attitude they gain from this course will serve them well in life, whether they choose a career in EMS or in a totally different field,” said Anna Knight, education captain at Grand County EMS.
Classes begin on Feb. 2. Visit https://www.usu.edu/admissions/apply/ to apply.
