Utah State University Statewide Campuses within the Wasatch region is proud to celebrate the 2020 graduating class with an anticipated 349 students receiving diplomas. While celebrations have been postponed in lieu of the COVID-19 pandemic, USU is celebrating its Wasatch Region graduates virtually and invites all graduates, alumni and supporters to wear blue on April 30 and post selfies in support of the Class of 2020 using hashtag #USUGRAD20.

“These graduates all have a powerful story of persistence, sacrifice, and hard work that was fueled by their hope for a better future,” said David Vernon, associate vice president of the Wasatch Region. “They successfully traveled this noble journey and reached their goal. I wish these amazing Aggies a prosperous future.”

Britian Roos, just one of the individuals that will be graduating from USU Salt Lake, earned her bachelor’s degree in family life studies with a minor in psychology while working full-time.

“With challenging and difficult times in my life, USU Salt Lake and their online classes made it quite flexible for me,” said Roos, “I was able balance my family, work and education, which allowed me to graduate in three years.

Drew Cobbley will be receiving his bachelor’s in horticulture along with his associates in ornamental horticulture degree from USU Orem.

“It was truly the perfect balance of feeling like you were part of an exclusive group of students in Orem, while being connected with our entire Aggie family,” said Cobbley. “I’m grateful for this opportunity to receive my bachelor’s degree from USU.”

The Wasatch Region is composed of students attending USU Salt Lake, Heber, Park City and Orem. The graduating class will include several certificates of completion, 29 associate degrees, 222 bachelor’s degrees and 91 master’s degrees.

This spring semester all students attending classes in the region had to transition to online classes, due to the COVID-19 situation. USU with 25 years of pioneering online education, was able to provide a seamless shift.

Although USU has postponed its commencement celebration, it still intends to celebrate graduates now. Graduates are encouraged to share their stories on Facebook and Instagram using #USUGRAD20 while utilizing GIPHY stickers on Instagram and photo frames on Facebook. A crowdsourced Google Map will be generated using comments as a demonstration of those in solidarity with the class of 2020.

The Wasatch Region intends to honor the graduates sometime in August at the USU Salt Lake Center.

Logan Commencement ceremony will be held on August 29 (as permitted). See USU’s website for more details as they’re finalized: https://www.usu.edu/commencement/schedule.cfm.
