Utah Public Radio Upgrades Signal and Program Options in the Uintah Basin

Utah Public Radio is completing an upgrade of its signal in the Uintah Basin to a full-power station that expands its coverage area and provides more program options on three separate channels via HD digital technology. Listeners in the Uintah Basin can still hear UPR on 91.5 F.M. and now on radio station KUSK, 88.5 F.M.

“All listeners will enjoy the upgraded signal, but those who have digital radios will be able to enjoy UPR’s complete schedule of program offerings,” said Nora Zambreno, interim general manager for UPR.

The HD1 channel provides the same program lineup broadcast simultaneously on 91.5 and 88.5 F.M. HD2 offers popular public radio programs such as “The Diane Rehm Show,” “Talk of the Nation” and “BBC World Service Overnight.” On HD3, listeners can hear Utah State University’s student-operated station Aggie Radio.

Digital channels HD1, HD2 and HD3 and their respective program offerings are also available online any time at www.upr.org. Internet access is all that’s required, Zambrino said.

Utah Public Radio will broadcast its daily “Access Utah” show from Vernal Friday, Sept. 24, from the new USU Bingham Entrepreneurship and Energy Center (320 N. Aggie Boulevard/2000 West, Vernal). “Access Utah” airs 9-10 a.m.

At 12:30 p.m. that day, UPR staff members Teri Guy, Friend Weller and Tom Williams will greet listeners at the Bingham Center complex in conjunction with an open house and day-long grand opening celebration.

Utah Public Radio is a service of Utah State University and is heard by listeners across Utah and in southern Idaho via a network of 32 translators. The station was licensed in 1953 as KVSC, the Voice of State College, and the call letters were later changed to KUSU. It is Utah’s oldest public radio service. UPR is a part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at USU.

UPR is in the process of adding similar full-power, digital-enhanced stations in Richfield and Moab.
