Utah State University Featured on NASA Web Page

Utah State University, represented by a group of creative Aggies, is featured on the NASA Web page. Students, members of the College of Engineering's Blue Moon team, welcome visitors to the site and promote NASA's "Great Moonbuggy Race" in Huntsville, Ala., April 8-9 at the Space and Rocket Center. The Utah State group plans to compete and, as the students say, they're "ready to roll."

 

NASA contacted Utah State University, inviting the school to produce the video introduction that is featured along with others on NASA's home page. A variety of messages are presented by NASA administrators, scientists, sports greats, kids, actors, current and veteran astronauts —  and even a message from the International Space Station. 

 

Utah State student Steven von Niederhausern, a multimedia specialist in the office of Public Relations and Marketing, took on the challenge of creating the video. Assisted by fellow student Jason Anderson, the pair worked with Maren Cartwright, also in the office of Public Relations and Marketing, and Todd Mosher, advisor to the Blue Moon team.

 

The production team surveyed videos on the NASA site, gathered ideas and came up with a concept. "We wanted to make our video the cleanest, most professional video on the site," von Niederhausern said.

 

Utah State's Blue Moon team was taped against a blue screen as it presented the welcome message. Then, an image of the original moon rover was added to the background. The result is an "out-of-this-world" atmosphere that emphasizes Utah State's space prowess.

 

Last year was the first time a team from Utah State entered the Great Moonbuggy Race. That team brought home the "Best Engineering Design" award. This year's team eagerly awaits the April competition.
